With the window facing up, the bag is sent through x-ray screening. It unzips from the bottom and lays open sort of "upside down" on the scanner belt. An unexpected orientation but not a problem. It is a bit larger that expected - I don't need the space for clothing. It does not have convienent dividers for file folders. The outside zippered pocket (handle side) works for quick access of your boarding pass but it is not deep enough for say a magazine or newspaper... The wheels are smooth and quiet. Overall, a good choice.
